NICHQ – Ed Sutherland

As Temporary IT Manager for the National Institute for Children’s Health Quality (NICHQ), I designed web site, newsletter and site graphics, sourced stock photography, took and edited photographs and prepared presentations, as well as maintained the organization’s web site, content management system and marketing communication software.

Appearing on the front page of the NICHQ web site, these large-scale images were creating using various combinations of previously sourced stock photography, custom-sourced stock photography, provided imagery and document and web site screen captures .

Newsletter Header Images

For the monthly newsletter banners, I sourced stock photography that reflected the positive and inspirational theme of the newsletter, then created the custom background graphics and adjusted existing elements, including the banner wording and font, to create the final assets.

Website Images

For the web site, I sourced stock images to requested specifications and created multiple versions of the images to be used in various places on the site, including blog posts and the email newsletter.

Photography and Photo Editing

I was responsible for taking and editing photos, including company event photos and photos used on the NICHQ executive team and staff pages. The photos for those pages involved setting up custom photo equipment, including lights and light gels, as well as calibrating and configuring a Digital SLR camera for the photo sessions.

Powerpoint Presentation

I was tasked with the design and creation of a unique, custom-designed centerpiece slideshow Powerpoint presentation showcasing the company’s current initiatives. The presentation, which contained previously-sourced stock photographs, was divided into sections, with each section containing the appropriate image throughout.

Additional Responsibilities

In addition to the above, I edited and optimized video to meet online delivery requirements, recommended software solutions for specific projects, provided technical advice, troubleshooting and assistance across the organization, and researched and established a vendor relationship for a very short turnaround project.

Finally, I documented new and revised processes, as well as new information, in the form of emails, word documents and, when necessary, detailed tutorials in preparation for hand-off to full-time staff upon the conclusion of the temporary contract.
